2009/03/26 In Retrospect, it's an Obvious Problem.
Our Glistening Chests giveaway (still active until the end of the weekend, see below) hit a slight unforeseen snag it seems. As it turns out, encouraging people to send in e-mails whose subjects/bodies contain really nothing besides the words "Free Glistening Chests" is the sort of thing that spam filters are prone to blocking. Anyone who sent a request in and had not yet received a copy should see it in their inboxes now. Apologies for the delay.

2009/03/20 Glistening Chests: Extra Exposu- oh that's just awful.
To get your copy, all you need to do is send an e-mail to us, using the link in the byline of this announcement (jakealley@gmail.com). We won't archive your address or send you spam, just a horrifyingly cheesy game. Since this giveaway is also an attempt to establish a few things like how much attention we can drum up on short notice, and whether we can offer PDF products without them turning up on piracy sites overnight, we do insist that you send your friends along to get their free copies through the official source rather than distribute the files on your own.
If this little experiment proves to be a success, you can potentially look forward to more PDF projects, more spontaneous generosity, and of course, more updates to Glistening Chests. Oh, and for those of you who have honestly paid for their copy of the game (or plan to in the future), as it says in the afterword, you can get a free upgrade to the current rule book any time for free, as well as any future version that doesn't involve a price increase. And even if there ever is such a price increase, you'll have an $8 credit towards that version.
As a final addendum to this overly-long news post, the ad campaign for this giveaway owes special thanks to Zeus Poplar, and some of the horrifically sleazy (and Not Safe For Work) Pulp Cover Art which inspired this game in the first place.

2009/01/14 Speaking of Being Budget-Conscious...
It's time for another recapping of the past year/planning for the next. You may recall The State of Things from last March. Looking back over last year's take on things, the Red Shirt bit stings a bit, but otherwise it seems accurate enough. Let's see how this year's goes.

After three long months of hacking, bad customer service, red tape, and other such issues, world-domination-llc.com is live once more. The message boards and online store have not been brought back up on the new server yet, but on the bright side, we're going to work on improving the integration of both into the rest of the site. In the meantime, you can order a copy of MvM via paypal directly from the game's page.

DragonCon went great. I'm sure many of the people reading this are approaching from that direction, so hi there. Enjoy yourselves. That's the good news. The bad news is, you may be noticing things look a little off around here. Due to corruption of either our webhost's morals or their security measures, we have some lovely ad spam trying to attach itself to every page and lock out our access to things. On the one hand, they aren't competent enough to do anything but break some table code, but on the other hand, we were already planning a server move due to, among other things, the serious security issues on this host.
This shouldn't have any real effect on the operation of the site, and should be handled within a week or so, but if anyone is feeling paranoid about using our online store under the circumstances, drop us an e-mail and we'll figure something out.

Some time ago, at the ASTRA Trade Show, someone wandered over to record a short video of The Massive Vs. The Masses. For an impromptu single take affair in a loud display hall, it came out pretty well.
You can see it here.

It's been a while since we've had a posting of general status updates on various projects, so here we go.
Surprisingly close to release on the other hand is a free, browser-based game which has been in development for some time now. Public beta testing should begin some time within the next two months, as will be announced here.
Much needed website revamping is, of course, in line behind all these.

2008/08/23 Taking the Show on the Road
Public talks and demonstrations are becoming decidedly more common here at WDL. Not long ago we were at ConnectiCon for a talk on breaking into the tabletop industry, this coming weekend will feature a copy of The Massive Vs. The Masses floating around DragonCon (no official demos have been scheduled, so just look for the bright yellow box). Plans are also in the works for a series of talks and demonstrations to be held at various public libraries. A detailed schedule of these should be posted here at such a time as it becomes practical to do so.

2008/06/26 Lessons Learned at ASTRA
- We should really devote more attention to noting that our games are 100% made in America. Most people's default notion was that everything came from depraved third world sweat shops and was irreasonably priced considering.
- We should also make a point of mentioning that we have no minimum order size when dealing with retailers.
- Shiny things help a lot. Booth decorations, full color pamplets, print up some of these for next time.
- Things which, irksomely, can't be taken for granted at these sorts of things: Wifi access on show floors, properly available time and space in "Game Night" demo areas.
- This website needs to be made much more retailer-friendly one of these days.
All that said, ASTRA went surprisingly well, particularly considering that it really wasn't catering to quite the right demographic for us. On a related note, if any of the various people interested in The
Massive Vs. The Masses want some proper retailer ordering info, or just to catchup, please feel free to make use of the following by-line e-mail link.

2008/06/22 ASTRA Annual Marketplace & Academy
We're headed to the ASTRA Annual Marketplace & Academy in Mashantucket, CT
for the next few days to run some demos and so forth for The
Massive Vs. The Masses. We might be a bit behind in replying to e-mails and orders for the next few
days, but if anyone is attending the show, feel free to stop by and talk to us in person.

2008/04/01 Interactivity
We've finally set up some message boards. Feel free to join in.

2008/03/04 A Brief Tribute
Today Gary Gygax, creator of Dungeons & Dragons, and by extension the concept of the RPG has died. I doubt anyone working in this industry hasn't been inspired by his work in one way or another. He was followed three months later by Erick Wujcik, who while less well known has also made huge contributions to the world of RPGs.

2008/03/01 End of the Year(ish) Recap
In a similar vein to Steve Jackson's annual Stakeholders' Report, I've just written up a quick summation of the The State of Things, covering what's been going on with the company for the last year, and what should be expected for the year ahead. Later this week I'll be throwing up a more in-depth report on the two cons I attended on my personal page for those who are interested.

2008/02/26 Captain, I Think I Found Something!
Something Positive's R. K. Milholland has agreed to illustrate the upcoming Red Shirt. We're quite happy to have him on board for it.

2008/01/22 Revenge of Demos, Demos, Demos!
Two cons are coming up in the next month or so, which I'll be at running demos of MvM, as well as Red Shirt and Collision, and possibly some others.
First up is TempleCon, coming up February 1st through 3rd in Providence, RI. Then of course for the 7th straight year, I will be heading to NonCon from February 22nd to 24th, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Also, in an effort to better express just what MvM is all about, we've added a rather in-depth sample game to the site, which is designed to give as good a handle as one can get on how the game works as is possible without actually playing it.

2007/11/13 Son of Demos, Demos, Demos!
The MvM demo at Citadel Games (537 Longhill Rd. Groton, CT) has been rescheduled to this Friday (the 16th) some time around 7 PM. There's also a better than average chance that I'll be running demos the next day at Ellis-Con the following day, most likely from around 4 PM on. Next week I'll most likely be in the Atlanta area, but nothing is scheduled there at the moment.
- Jake Alley
2007/10/30 Demos, Demos, Demos!
Tomorrow (which is to say Halloween) I will personally be at Alterniverse, at 2517 Rte 44 Washington-Hollow Plaza Salt Point, NY running demos of The Massive Vs. The Masses, so if you're in that general area, stop on by around 6 PM. Alternatively, if you're in the general vicinity of Citadel Games, at 537 Longhill Rd. Groton, CT, I'll be running demos there on November 10th around 1 PM.>
There seem to be a few other stores in this general region wanting to set up demos like this next month too, once I get a chance to catch my breath I'll have to hash out all these details and post a calendar of what's going on when.
Incidentally, I'll be down in the Atlanta area few a few days around Thanksgiving, so anyone down there wanting to set something up, now's the time to ask.

2007/10/17 Quite Shiny
After getting the last of these pre-order copies properly packed up, I sat down with my personal copy to take a nice calm relaxed look at it. Naturally, THIS was the moment the big nasty typo on the first page of the instructions jumps out at me. On the bright side, hey, now people get to brag about owning the ultra-rare first printing with the "egdes" instructions and the extra-dark board artwork.
More importantly, I took a camera to it and finally added some decent sample images to the game's page. Not the best quality images, but you get some idea of what's in the box at least.

2007/10/9 8, 7, 6, 5...
As you may have guessed from the great big ominous countdown up in the corner, today is the day The Massive Vs. The Masses starts shipping. If you've pre-ordered your copy, with luck it should arrive before the weekend. Except of course for this box full going out to Ireland for Gaelcon obviously Speaking of Gaelcon, it seems it's being held in a castle this year, so if anyone out there plans to attend, and happens to see someone playing MvM in a particularly inspiring setting, try and get a picture for us, would you? Honestly, I'd like to see any pictures from that con. That's just such a wonderful venue for a con.
For those of you who have not yet ordered a copy of MvM, the next batch is shipping out to retailers, at which point the current $10 discount from our online store is going to end, so it's now or never.
Finally, have a happy Leif Erikson day everone! I've been celebrating it for years myself, but only recently realized it's an actual federal holiday.

2007/09/12 Last Minute Clean-Up
It was brought to my attention that on the cusp of releasing our first game, our Ordering Info page was still a placeholder. So that's fixed, there's a link to the online store in the proper places, and our little logo up in the corner now matches the one found on the boxes.
Speaking of which, the boxes for MvM will be here in another two weeks (surprising turn around time, no?) and I believe that's the last thing due before the game starts shipping out.

2007/08/19 And Lo, the Site Was Given a Point
After a shockingly long period of research, implimentation, bug-testing, and repeating, The World Domination LLC store is finally up and running! At the moment, you may use it to either pre-order The Massive Vs. The Masses, or for more instant gratification, order Glistening Chests, my simple little tongue-in-cheek mindless barbarian themed mini-RPG as a PDF to be sent by e-mail. It's rather skimpy, but hey, it's only $8.00.
This would also most likely be a good time to point out a couple of fun facts about the status of M Vs. M as things stand. Nearly all the components are now in, all that's left is the boxes and instructions oddly enough. Depending on how many snags are encountered with those, the game should begin shipping in the next few weeks (but let's not dismiss the possibility that the boxes will be coming from a factory in the himalayas who only handle one order every 3 months just yet). The final retail price may also climb a little higher between now and release day. Anyone who places a pre-order now though will get their copy for the listed $50.00+shipping currently in the store. Think of it as a Going Into Business sale or something.
As another little note, the online store does not yet support the coupons handed out to people at NonCon earlier this year, but should be soon if you feel like holding off for another week.

2007/06/30 Exciting New Developments
OK, after a long period of horrific production delays, it looks like I've finally managed to pull together everything needed to have The Massive Vs. The Masses on shelves by oh... let's say July 25th. That's not an official date though, there's still 3 more chances for massive delays to jump out of something. Our online store is also just about ready to go live and let people start placing pre-orders.
Unfortunately late July means missing out on the last big premiere event I had in reserve (Connecticon) so it looks like I'll have to do some research if I want to get a con booth before next NonCon.

2007/06/07 Swords, Sorcery, and Metal Bikinis!
Well, the "special surprise" mentioned earlier is all set to go, but getting our online storefront up and running is taking a bit longer than expected. This will go on sale reasonably soon though, and there should be some good news on the MvM front too.
- Jake Alley
2007/05/22 All-Consuming Chaos
The Massive Vs. The Masses remains a couple key components short of release, with the tale of horror updated appropriately (and now there's a photo). We have a special surprise in the weeks to keep everyone busy while they wait though, look for it to rear its head within the week.
- Jake Alley
2007/04/15 Pushing the Monster Back to the Sea
The Massive Vs. The Masses is getting pushed back a bit further. The short answer is that there's a shipping delay on a few components. The long answer is here, but I warn you, it's long. Alternatively, you can just click toss an e-mail to jakealley@gmail.com and I'll send you a personal notification when you can swing by and buy it.

2007/03/07 Back from NonCon
NonCon was a load of fun as always, here's a brief con report detailing the highlights as pertain to WDL (I'll most likely write a more detailed account on my personal page later). If you were in attendence and find yourself reading this page, I should have given you a coupon of sorts for MvM:GvA. If you want to find out exactly when it's being released rather than checking back here constantly, toss me an e-mail and I'll keep you posted. You should also pester me if, by some chance, you were there and I somehow didn't fling a coupon your way. Remind me who you are and I'll work something out there for you, too.
- Jake Alley
2007/03/02 Off to NonCon
I was hoping to be selling copies of our first game here by this point, but certain components are still tied up in production, so the real official kick-off party is going to have to wait another month or two. In the meantime, I'm heading out to NonCon today running demos of several games, and if you happen to run into me there, I can hand you a little coupon card for a discount once MvM:GvA is ready to ship. You can also expect a con report to appear here soon.

2006/12/11 Half-Finished Website Released Upon Unsuspecting Public!
The original plan was not to make this site publicly viewable until our first product was ready for sale, the logo was redrawn by someone with way more talent, and various other eyesores had been vanquished and replaced with pleasant looking things.
What really ended up happening of course is that a few situations arose where I needed an url to point people at well before this sucker was fit for public consumption. So for now, unless you feel compelled to poke around this skeleton of a site with ugly layouts and no real content, you really should just wander on over to my personal page for now, and don't bother checking back here until oh... March May. By then this place should be much easier on the eyes, and also feature some games you can go and buy.
