NonCon 7

The first thing that struck me this year at NonCon (well, second behind a previous year's con chair's surprise greeting technically) was that there really was a legitimate desire for people to see the retail release of Gamorzilla Vs. The Army. Sadly, delays on several components kept that from happening. Still, nice to see that there's some demand, and I passed out a fair number of coupons to anyone showing the slightest interest.

Collision went quite well. Everyone picked up the rules more or less immediately, it played darn fast, and people worked out some rather interesting strategies. It should be going into publication shortly.

Red Shirt also made a pretty good impact on people. The general consensus was that it was inherently amusing, had a lot of potential, but needs some tinkering with the rules before it's ready to go. This is what I expected going in, as I quite frankly rushed this one out the door. Next year I should have a much smoother version to demo.

The rest of the con was a blast too. I had a chance to play a slew of new games, mainly of the German sort, all quite fun. I had a chance to introduce some friends to the con for the first time (plus hang out with the various long-orbit friends made at NonCon in past years), and I was introduced to the fine piece of literature that is the Eye of Argon.

Not everything was perfect, as a few panels I was scheduled to speak on had some scheduling hiccups and fell apart (although this did free up more time for gaming, so I can't complain too much). I also ended up more or less on the exact opposite schedule as Randy Milholland of Something Positive, which is a shame, as he's a rather interesting person, and he evidently ran a game of Toon I missed out on. Yet another great game that. Plus, new campus policies made the traditional Roborally-til-dawn session an impossibility (but then, this gave me an excuse to actually get a good night's sleep).

So yes, all-in-all, an excellent con. Next year I should be attending with plenty of shinies to dispense as well.
